You have probably driven over a piece of Coldstream Concrete without knowing it.

Since 1945, the family-owned manufacturer has been producing precast concrete from its plant in Coldstream, in the heart of Middlesex County. The company that began with forming concrete drain tile for local farms has grown into one of Ontario's leaders in custom heavy precast, producing box culverts, maintenance holes, catch basins, headwalls and reinforced concrete pipe for infrastructure projects across the province.

Today Coldstream Concrete is led by Amy Koteles, the third generation of her family at the helm, carrying forward what her grandfather started in 1945. That continuity shows in how the business operates: long-tenured employees, lasting customer relationships, and a product line that keeps evolving without losing sight of where it started.

One area where Coldstream is making a particular mark is accelerated bridge construction. The company manufactures precast box culverts that allow municipalities to replace aging bridges and crossings in a fraction of the time traditional methods require. Instead of closing a road for a season, a precast structure can be manufactured to spec in the plant, delivered, and installed in days. With communities across Ontario facing aging infrastructure, that capability puts a Middlesex County manufacturer at the centre of a province-wide solution.

The company's custom capabilities are significant. Coldstream engineers and casts elements up to 32,000 kilograms, and its recent innovations include a fully skewed culvert designed to accommodate complex road angles.

Coldstream Concrete is a case study in what Middlesex County offers manufacturers: room to grow, access to markets across southwestern Ontario and beyond, and a workforce that stays.

Eighty years in, the company is still growing, still hiring, and still family-owned.
